چکیده
background: oral lichen planus (olp) is a relatively common chronic inflammatory muco-cutaneous disease classified among the potentially malignant lesions of oral mucosa. in this study we evaluated tissue expression of p 53 ، ki-67 in olp compared to normal oral mucosa. methods: specimens (formalin-fixed and paraffin- embedded) of 44 lesions of olp and 30 controls referred to immunohistochemistry (ihc) analysis for p 53 and ki-67. results of immunohistochemistry were statistically evaluated by means of kolmogorov- smirnov, kruskal- wallis and t -test. the level of statistical significance was established at p < 0.05. results : this study included 44 patients with olp (27 females and 17 males) and 30 subjects as control group (18 females and 12 males).the mean expression of p 53 in patients with olp was greater than subjects in control group. the mean expression of ki- 67 in patients with olp was more than people in control group. these differences were statistically significant ( p = 0.001). conclusion: since p 53 and ki-67 extensively accepted as important biomarkers in diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of malignant and premalignant lesions, therefore high degree of presence of these biomarkers in chronic premalignant lesion like olp can be a great helpful in its prognosis and suggested treatments.

Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the oral mucosa which is considered by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a premalignant condition. One step in malignant development is so called epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT), a process whereby epithelial cells acquire mesenchymal characteristics. A factor known to induce EMT is the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β...
متن کاملImmunohistochemical analysis of Ki-67 expression in oral lichen planus lesions
Introdouction: Lichen planus is a chronic, relatively common, dermal mucosa disease. The World Health Organization (WHO) has introduced lichen planus as a premalignant condition. Ki-67 is a protein that can be detected in all active phases of the cell cycle, especially in the G2 and M phases. Considering the major role of Ki-67 in the regulation of the cell cycle and the fact that it is one of ...

متن کاملpresence of epstein- barr virus in oral lichen planus and normal oral mucosa
background: oral lichen planus (olp) is a chronic immunologic disease. the etiology of olp is unknown, viral antigens (for example epstein-bar virus) have been proposed as etiologic agents. olp may get transformation to malignancy so re search on the presence of ebv in olp lesions seems to be necessary. the aim of this study was to ascertain if ebv acted as etiologic factor in pathogenesis of o...
متن کاملComparison of Expression of p53 and bcl-2 Markers in Oral Lichen Planus and Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Background and Aim: It has been suggested that oral lichen planus (OLP) can be a potential premalignant lesion. Reports are also available on the role of bcl-2 and p53 proteins in malignant transformation of OLP into oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Due to controversies in these reports, the present study aimed to compare the expression of p53 and bcl-2 markers in OLP and OSCC. Materials a...
